Description: VERY RARE 1960s 7.5 inch Dam troll doll girl. Please be sure to check out all her pictures! Named Zena, she is dressed in her all new three piece, two-toned sparkly red and green felt Christmas inspired outfit. Deep emerald green ruffle ribbon edged, long sleeved top, not removable matching two-toned red and green sparkly gathered paneled skirt that ties closed on the backside, added red bric-a- brac to waist and hemline area. Added matching two toned red and green Santa style hat (lightly stuffed and pinned into place) plaid brim with sewn on sparkly red Christmas ribbon and added pom poms on the tip of her hat. Her two-toned red and green felt top is permanently sewn into place. Added a green plastic purse which is attached to her right wrist with a black rubber band. Zena came to me bald, naked and eyeball less so a Christmas inspired theme seemed like a great way to bring out her best, very rare and unique Dam, made in New Zealand features. Zena has new, replaced long, snowy white Icelandic sheep fur hair and replaced bright emerald green, soulful plastic eyes that gently frames her very sweet and pleasing troll face and contrasts so nicely with her bright sparkly red and green, personally handmade Christmas inspired felt outfit. Stamped, Thomas Dam on her back, on the back of her neck, USA FOREIGN PATS PENDING and on her foot: MADE IN NEW ZEALAND COPYRIGHT REG. DES. N Z 8437 Aust 40884. Zena has wonderful pointy ears as do all New Zealand made troll dolls whether it is a girl or a boy troll doll. She has lightly blushed, rosy cheeks, cute little dimples, jointed head and wonderfully squishy vinyl body and slightly darker vinyl from her troll partner, Zachery which is available in a separate eBay listing. What makes Dam trolls (particularly those) made in New Zealand so rare and so special is that in the 1960s, there was a Dam factory in Tauranga, New Zealand. They were made under the license to Danish born Kristian Nyboe Pasgaard who immigrated to New Zealand around 1949. He exported some of the trolls to Australia through the 1960s. This may help to explain why some of the New Zealand trolls are stamped, Made in Denmark. Thomas Dam granted him license to produce some of these trolls in New Zealand. After he passed away, his sons continued to operate his business until the 1980s when trolls were not in such a high demand. It is likely the same mold was used for both girl and boy trolls since they both have pointy ears. Although Zena has replaced Icelandic sheep fur, traditional New Zealand made trolls used short wool hair that was native to the sheep raised both in New Zealand and Australia. I want to give due credit to the information that I obtained through the online website: dagoriginaldesigns.com, a wonderful and very informative troll website with beautiful troll pictures and great articles and provided a great resource for appreciating and understanding the origins of the very rare Thomas Dam trolls made in New Zealand. There is some vinyl pitting near the foot side area that were exactly the same on each troll indicating a vinyl troll mold release issue. There are some minor vinyl spotting and or staining on parts of her 60 plus year old body: most notably on the tip and underneath her nose, on the right side, under the lower chin area, as well as both sides of her ears. No chew marks that I can see. Zena is very good condition, cute little dimples, a very impish troll grin and dressed in her newly inspired one-of-a-kind, all personally handmade Christmas outfit. Zena is in troll ready display and a delightful very rare made in New Zealand troll to collect and enjoy for years to come. Some of the pictures show the matching Christmas inspired (made in) New Zealand 7.5 inch troll boy named Zachery from the 1960s. He is in a separate listing available on eBay. Please know he is not a part of this eBay sale, only the 7.5 inch girl is available on this eBay listing. All Christmas ornaments and other Christmas related items are for display purposes only and are not a part of this listing available for purchase. Please feel free to ask questions, I aim to please! Thank you for checking my eBay listing, I really appreciate it. I am always happy to combine shipping. I hope you will consider seeing my other troll auctions available. I hope you will add me to your favorite sellers list!
