ABOUT THE UTC FLORENCE American soldiers at U.S. Army University Center in Italy attend a class in solid geometry at the University of Florence, Italy, the first opened of four universities planned for the European and Mediterranean Theaters, which present an extensive educational program for military personnel overseas. The study center at Florence opened July 9, 1945 with a student body of 1,200 men and women representing every branch of the U.S. Army in Italy. At the universities, the students will wear uniforms, but there will be no classroom distinction between officers and enlisted men. The universities centers will be enable [sic] military personnel awaiting redeployment or repatriation to pick up the threads of their civilian interest by study and practical application of training.
