This is a stated Stated new edition, enlarged and improved from the author's notes and with a full index by John Lewis Roget. Published by Thomas Y. Crowell & Co. Publishers, New York. No date but presumed late 1800s. The tabs are marked C.H. Denison’s Pat. and dated Oct. 7, 1884. Likely published shortly after thisThe first section of the book is by category and is 429 pp. The second section is alphabetical and is 270 pages.Marbled fore and endpapers. Top edges are gold gilted Hardcover, appears to be leather bound, with marbled paper pastedown Book measures 5 1/2” x 8 1/2” x 1 ¾” thick Condition – Split to top/bottom of spine. And there is a split on the top cover spine edge. There is a ¾” gauge on the top section of the spine (see pics). Some wear to the four corners. Back inside hinge is mostly exposed. Some yellowing to the pages. Bottom of pages have a very light water stain and also similar on top, but much smaller. The binding is tight. It’s a little stiff when you open it, but every page is separate and can be read. Nice marbled fore and end pages (inside covers-see pics).
