Description: DESCRIPTION: This rare brass doorknob was manufactured by the Sergent Co. sometime between 1890 to 1898 as ordered by the city of San Francisco. The city motto is written on the surface: "Oro en Pas Fierro en Guerra" which means "Gold and Iron in Peace." It was salvaged from the ruins of the San Francisco City Hall that was built in 1899 and destroyed in the 1906 earthquake. See my other auctions for a salvaged doorknob from the SF Public Library. CONDITION: This doorknob has the original patina with no modifications. If you need more pictures please don't hesitate to ask. All questions will be cheerfully and promptly answered.
