Replacement Olympia SM2/SM3/SM4 (SM5?) Typewriter Feet (set of 4)

Description: There are several variation options in this listing, please pay close attention to which one you select! These are a set of four replacement feet for many models of the beloved Olympia SM2, SM3, SM4, and *maybe* SM5 typewriters. I really adore all my various Olympia typewriters, but like many other brands the design of the feet vary over the years and models. So, please be sure these feet are the correct style for your typewriter. These are frustrating feet, not the German Engineering genius so evident in all other aspects of the machine--you must literally take the bottom frame off of the typewriter in order to access the tiny nut used to mount the feet. Frustrating, but it was easier than I thought, some of the photos show the process as I replaced the feet an SM4 in my collection. The SM4 required only removing the four bottom screws, the back panel (4 tiny screws), and a horizontal bracket on top (2 screws). I also removed the ribbon cover to get it out of the way because that is easy. I have several variations listed in this auction as options, so read this carefully, examine your machine, and look at my photos. There are two kinds of feet in this auction, rectangular (for SM2, SM3, and SM4) and round (for some Monika/Monica machines, and *maybe* for SM5 machines with round feet, but I don't have the latter to verify). Most people reading this will know about the famous Olympia chassis spacer problem--most of these machine will grind when the carriage moves, or not move at all, due to these little rubber washers squishing flat. You can always hack a solution at the hardware store (or your toolbox), but I tend to fuss over details, and made precision replacements offered here. These spacers are 4mm high, which I believe is optimal, but if you contact me before buying I can easily make these for you in any height (e.g., up to 5mm may also work). The issue here is, more spacer height gives more carriage clearance, but eventually the machine won't latch in the case anymore.New!...this listing is now updated to include the case rubber feet that mount on the inside and outside to protect the case bottom and allow the typewriter to be used in the case. If your original case feet are even there anymore, they are likely crumbling and hard. These are easy to install, and specially designed to look like the originals but with improved TPU synthetic rubber and tapered edges to resist catching on something and being pulled off. This listing has 6 variations (options), which are: Set of 4 Rectangular Feet (for SM2, SM3, and SM4)Set of 4 Round Feet (should fit a Monika in this range with round feet, (*maybe SM5 with round feet). Please check your feet, the round ones are 13mm high. Set of 4 Chassis Spacers.Set of 4 Rectangular Feet + 4 Chassis SpacersSet of 4 Round Feet + 4 Chassis Spacers4 sets of SM3 / SM4 (SM2?) Case Feet. Each "case foot" consists of 2 halves which mount through holes the bottom of the case, one part inside and one part outside. They mate together and stick together pretty well with no other adhesive. If needed, perhaps some hot glue or rubber cement would help, but as these are made from somewhat flexible TPU regular glue won't adhere to them. Please message me with any questions, particularly if you have an SM5 or Monica that has different feet than this, so we can figure things out. To remove the old feet, you must remove the cover to gain access to the tiny nuts, as mentioned. Please see the included photo showing the removal highlights. You need to remove the 4 main chassis screws on the bottom to do this, and note the chassis spacers (grommets) are attached with these screws, you can remove them now or later if replacing. I used a 5.5mm socket to hold the nut while unscrewing with a flat screwdriver. Installing the new feet is just the reverse of removing the old ones. I designed these to be nearly an identical replacement, but with the advantages of modern 3D printing technology we can engineer materials that were previously impossible. I printed with NinjaFlex TPU polymer (https://ninjatek.com/ninjaflex/), which is very strong (but a knife or scissors will cut it, just like rubber!), flexible, and pretty gripping on most surfaces. They are printed in Midnight Black (see photos). Some people may prefer the original dull rubber look (and those are also likely being made and sold), but I actually think these are a superior look to rubber, and the glossy finish better matches the rest of the machine. I also think these will last far longer than natural rubber without compressing or falling apart. Whatever you do, don't consider generic "TPU", which is typically 95A Shore hardness and will not grip at all. Please ignore other's marketing claims that 3D printed feet have no grip, or that their feet are more "professional". Look at my reviews, these are beautiful and amazing typewriter feet being bought by collectors and dealers alike, I'm regularly told my feet are the best. I designed these for my own typewriter as shown, and this is an ongoing experiment to see if it's worth my time to make some more for the community. Compatibility Info: Your responsibility, please don't order unless you checked! As far as I can tell, this should fit all SM2, SM3, and SM4 machines from about 1951 to 1962 so long as they look like my photos--rectangular (39.5mm x 26.6mm x 11mm) and mount with the metal clip/bracket and screw assembly as shown. The round feet may fit SM5 and Monica/Monika machines from about 1959 to 1963, but I have only verified this on my 1959 Monika--round (25mm diameter x 13mm high). YOU MUST HAVE YOUR ORIGINAL HARDWARE TO INSTALL THESE, THEY ARE NOT INCLUDED. PS: Ebay's volume discount display is a bit confusing, each purchase is a SET OF FOUR feet or spacers (or 4 feet and 4 spacers), so picking "1" is one set of 4; "2" is 2 sets of 4 (8), etc. You get one set as described only, everything else pictured such as typewriter and metal hardware is NOT INCLUDED (you need to save your original hardware!).
