Description: Charles Dickens - The Personal History of David Copperfield - 1850 First edition published by Bradbury & Evans First edition. 624 pages + frontispiece, vignette title page & 38 illustrated plates. With the important first issue points, the vignette title page dated 1850 and the uncorrected "screamed" rather than "screwed" to page 132. The book is firmly bound in very dark green contemporary half-leather, lettered and tooled in gilt and blind, with marbled paper covered boards and brown paper endpapers front and rear, leather and boards are somewhat rubbed, with slight bumping to the corners and spine ends and some chipping to the paper. Bound without half-title or ads, but with the 6-line Errata page present, the text block is slightly age toned, foxed and marked, with short closed tears to a few page edges, some lightly dog-eared corners and a slightly longer closed tear to the inside corner of the plate opposite page 70, there is a neatly written ink ownership inscription dated 1850 to the top of the first blank page, also some old dealer's pencil notes to the page opposite, from the days when such a book could be obtained for a modest seeming £30 (the late 1970s judging by auction records for equivalent examples). On the whole, a rather handsome copy of the first edition.
