Antique Henry Alcock England 8-5/8" Flow Blue TOURAINE Oval Relish Dish (c 1898)

Description: Henry Alcock & Co. Cobridge, England 8-5/8" Flow Blue TOURAINE Oval Relish Dish (c. 1898) This pretty oval dish was made by Henry Alcock & Co. (Cobridge, England), in the very popular flow blue pattern called "Touraine." This piece was mixed in with a box of Alcock Touraine pieces I picked up recently at an estate sale here in Chicago (see my other listings). It has three bouquets of very blurry blue flowers on the white bowl, with an embossed wide blue band around the scalloped rim, outlined with gold bands and trip. This shape is identified at the replacements site as a relish or gravy underplate. It is in very good condition, with no chips, cracks, or crazing, and very few signs of use or wear. Even the gold trim is very intact. There are a couple of specks in the white parts of the glaze, which are original to manufacture. The shallow dish measures 8-5/8 inches long, about 4.5 inches wide at the center of the rim, and the sides are 1 inch high at the tip of the wavy scallops. The bottom has several marks, the main one being a blurry blue mark for "Touraine | Semi-Porcelain | Henry Alcock & Co. | England | Reg. No. 329815." This logo was used by Alcock between 1891 and 1900, and the registered mark 329815 dates to 1898.
